Rural brigades in firefighting

Colonia Yucatán.- In the northeast region of Yucatan, Pronatura Peninsula de Yucatan A.C. works with two rural brigades; one consisting of six elements and another of ten in coordination with the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), which have been trained to timely address forest fires that may occur in the area.

Before and during the wildfire season, the brigade works in the maintenance of firebreaks, as well as in some simulation activities, which allows improving the response capacity of the team.

According to the calendar of agricultural burning in the state of Yucatan, the season began on March 1, with a break during the month of April due to the climatic conditions prevailing at that time and officially ended on May 31.

During this period, the brigades are ready to attend claims in coordination with Civil Protection, CONAFOR, National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), ejidos and producers.

These activities are developed thanks to the support of the WWF-Fundación Carlos Slim and CONAFOR
